Team Selection

Selection Panel:

The OEGCC Selection Panel to be made up of;

  • One Chairman of Selectors appointed by the committee prior to the start of each season.

  • The captain (or from time to time a representative) of each of the four teams.

Captains appointed by the OEGCC committee prior to the start of each season.

Selection Policy:

The OEGCC Selection panel will select the teams for the four sides on the following basis in order of priority;

  • Performance, attitude and results from Saturday matches.

  • Attendance, performance and attitude at weekly training sessions.

  • Paid up financial membership.

  • Attendance at the Club’s social functions.

  • Other issues as maybe relevant to the individual member or club and in keeping with the club’s values of facilitating an inclusive and family environment.

Greater weight on performance should apply to the selection of players in the first two grades. The performance criteria can be more relaxed in the selection of the lower two grades where other qualitative factors such as father/son combinations and contribution to the club should be taken into consideration.

Selection Process:

The selection process should commence at the latest on the Tuesday night before a game and should be completed on the Thursday night before a game. Discussions on team selections should be inclusive and revolve around the club’s selection policy. The teams should be announced each Thursday night and posted on the club’s website on Friday morning prior to the start of each game.

High importance should be placed on identifying players that may have issues with team selections and a representative(s) of the selection committee should be assigned to explain decisions to them as soon as possible and preferably prior to the announcement of the teams.

It is the selection committee’s responsibility to ensure that no player is aggrieved by team selection and that the committee’s decisions are transparent, in accordance with the selection policy and are explained to all interested parties as required.

The PEGSCC Committee will strongly uphold behaviour standards of players and supporters as detailed on the VTCA website.
